Description
A gourmet twist on the classic grilled cheese featuring fresh mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, and aromatic basil leaves, inspired by the flavors of a traditional Caprese salad.
Ingredients
2 slices of bread (sourdough, ciabatta, or country bread recommended)
2-3 slices fresh mozzarella cheese
2-3 slices ripe tomato
Fresh basil leaves
1-2 tablespoons butter
Balsamic glaze (optional for drizzling)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Butter one side of each bread slice evenly.
 - Place the bread slices, buttered side down, on a cutting board or plate.
 - Layer mozzarella slices, tomato slices, and basil leaves on one piece of bread.
 - Season with salt and pepper to taste.
 - Optionally drizzle a small amount of balsamic glaze over the filling.
 - Top with the other slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
 - Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the sandwich in the pan.
 - Cook until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt, about 2-3 minutes.
 - Flip carefully and cook the other side until golden and cheese is fully melted, another 2-3 minutes.
 - Remove from heat, slice, and serve immediately.
 
Notes
- Use flavored breads like garlic or rosemary focaccia for more depth.
 - Spread pesto inside for extra herbaceous flavor.
 - Swap mozzarella with provolone or fontina for variety.
 - Add arugula or avocado for extra texture and flavor.
 - Press lightly with a spatula while cooking for an extra crispy sandwich.
