Description

A gourmet twist on the classic grilled cheese featuring fresh mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, and aromatic basil leaves, inspired by the flavors of a traditional Caprese salad.


Ingredients

2 slices of bread (sourdough, ciabatta, or country bread recommended)
23 slices fresh mozzarella cheese
23 slices ripe tomato
Fresh basil leaves
12 tablespoons butter
Balsamic glaze (optional for drizzling)
Salt and pepper, to taste


Instructions

  1. Butter one side of each bread slice evenly.
  2. Place the bread slices, buttered side down, on a cutting board or plate.
  3. Layer mozzarella slices, tomato slices, and basil leaves on one piece of bread.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Optionally drizzle a small amount of balsamic glaze over the filling.
  6. Top with the other slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
  7. Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the sandwich in the pan.
  8. Cook until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt, about 2-3 minutes.
  9. Flip carefully and cook the other side until golden and cheese is fully melted, another 2-3 minutes.
  10. Remove from heat, slice, and serve immediately.

  • Use flavored breads like garlic or rosemary focaccia for more depth.
  • Spread pesto inside for extra herbaceous flavor.
  • Swap mozzarella with provolone or fontina for variety.
  • Add arugula or avocado for extra texture and flavor.
