Ingredients
Base and Topping
- 2 packages yellow cake mix
- 4 large eggs (room temperature)
- 2/3 cup oil
Chocolate Layer
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips or chunks
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine (cubed)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the bars.
- Prepare Cake Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the two packages of yellow cake mix, four eggs, and 2/3 cup of oil. Mix thoroughly until well combined to form the batter.
- Press Batter into Pan: Grease a large cookie sheet or baking pan. Press two-thirds of the cake batter evenly into the bottom of the pan to create the base layer. Set aside the remaining batter for later.
- Make Chocolate Topping: In a microwave-safe bowl, add the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and cubed butter. Microwave uncovered for about one minute, then stir until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.
- Pour Chocolate Layer: Pour the melted chocolate mixture evenly over the pressed cake batter in the pan.
- Add Remaining Batter: Drop the reserved cake batter over the chocolate layer by teaspoonfuls, spreading it evenly but leaving some of the chocolate layer visible.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned and set.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely on a wire rack before cutting them into squares. Enjoy your delicious Can’t Leave Alone Bars!
Notes
- Make sure the eggs are at room temperature for better batter consistency.
- Use a greased cookie sheet to prevent sticking.
- Be careful not to overbake; bars should be just lightly browned on top.
- For a richer flavor, use real butter instead of margarine.
- Chocolate chips can be substituted with dark or semi-sweet chips for variation.
