Description

Can’t Leave Alone Bars are a decadent, easy-to-make dessert featuring layers of moist yellow cake mix and a rich chocolate and sweetened condensed milk filling. These bars combine a buttery, cake-like base with a melty chocolate topping, baked to perfection for a delightful treat that’s perfect for parties and casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Base and Topping

  • 2 packages yellow cake mix
  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 2/3 cup oil

Chocolate Layer

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips or chunks
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine (cubed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the bars.
  2. Prepare Cake Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the two packages of yellow cake mix, four eggs, and 2/3 cup of oil. Mix thoroughly until well combined to form the batter.
  3. Press Batter into Pan: Grease a large cookie sheet or baking pan. Press two-thirds of the cake batter evenly into the bottom of the pan to create the base layer. Set aside the remaining batter for later.
  4. Make Chocolate Topping: In a microwave-safe bowl, add the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and cubed butter. Microwave uncovered for about one minute, then stir until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.
  5. Pour Chocolate Layer: Pour the melted chocolate mixture evenly over the pressed cake batter in the pan.
  6. Add Remaining Batter: Drop the reserved cake batter over the chocolate layer by teaspoonfuls, spreading it evenly but leaving some of the chocolate layer visible.
  7. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned and set.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely on a wire rack before cutting them into squares. Enjoy your delicious Can’t Leave Alone Bars!

Notes

  • Make sure the eggs are at room temperature for better batter consistency.
  • Use a greased cookie sheet to prevent sticking.
  • Be careful not to overbake; bars should be just lightly browned on top.
  • For a richer flavor, use real butter instead of margarine.
  • Chocolate chips can be substituted with dark or semi-sweet chips for variation.
