Description

This Broiled Cod recipe is quick, healthy, and packed with flavor. Lightly seasoned and broiled in a zesty lemon-garlic butter sauce, the cod develops a tender, flaky texture with a golden finish. With only a handful of ingredients and minimal prep, this easy broiled cod is perfect for busy weeknights or elegant dinners alike. Naturally low in carbs and gluten-free, it’s a wholesome and satisfying seafood dish the whole family will love.

Ingredients

1 pound cod fillets (about 4 pieces)

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon lemon zest

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat Broiler: Set oven to broil and position rack 4–6 inches from heat source.

  • Prepare Cod: Pat fillets dry. Season both sides with salt and pepper.

  • Make Sauce: In an oven-safe skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Stir in lemon juice and zest.

  • Sear Cod: Place cod in skillet. Cook for 1 minute, then flip.

  • Broil: Transfer skillet to oven. Broil for 6–9 minutes, or until cod is opaque and flakes easily. Internal temp should reach 130–140°F (54–60°C).

  • Garnish & Serve: Remove from oven, sprinkle with parsley, and serve with lemon wedges.

Notes

  • For easy cleanup, line a baking sheet with foil if not using a skillet.

  • Add red pepper flakes for a spicy twist, or top with Parmesan for a cheesy crust.

  • Swap lemon with lime or orange for a fun citrus variation.

  • Ideal cod thickness: about 1 inch for even cooking.
