Description
Brioche French Toast Casserole is a baked dish made with rich brioche bread soaked in a sweet, cinnamon-spiced custard. It has a crispy top and a soft, custardy interior, perfect for brunch or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf brioche bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for greasing the baking dish)
- Maple syrup (optional, for serving)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Arrange the cubed brioche bread evenly in the prepared dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, pressing down gently to ensure all the bread is soaked. If the bread isn’t fully submerged, add a little extra milk or cream.
- Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for the best flavor.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove the casserole from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before baking.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy and the center is set.
- Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Top with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit if desired.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider topping the casserole with fresh berries or nuts before baking.
- If you need a dairy-free or gluten-free version, use dairy-free milk, heavy cream alternatives, and gluten-free bread.
- This casserole can be made ahead of time and refrigerated overnight for easy preparation the next morning.
- Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the microwave or oven.
