Description

This Biscuits and Gravy Hashbrown Breakfast Casserole combines the perfect mix of crispy hashbrowns, savory sausage gravy, and buttery biscuits for a comforting and hearty breakfast or brunch. It’s the ultimate dish to serve at family gatherings, special occasions, or whenever you’re craving a filling, satisfying meal to start your day. The blend of textures—crispy, creamy, and soft—will quickly make this casserole a new favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 1 package frozen hashbrowns (about 30 oz)
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits (8-count)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Cook the breakfast sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned and crumbled (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the flour is lightly golden.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and becomes creamy (about 3-5 minutes).
  • Add the cooked sausage back into the gravy mixture, stir to combine, and remove from heat.
  • In the prepared baking dish, layer the frozen hashbrowns evenly on the bottom.
  • Tear the biscuits into small pieces and scatter them over the hashbrowns.
  • Pour the sausage gravy mixture over the casserole, spreading it out evenly.
  • Crack the eggs on top and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until bubbly and the biscuits are golden brown.
  • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, substitute breakfast sausage with plant-based sausage or mushrooms.
  • Add sautéed vegetables like spinach, peppers, or onions for extra nutrition.
  • You can experiment with different cheese varieties like mozzarella or pepper jack.
  • For a spicier version, add diced green chilies or a sprinkle of cayenne pepper.
