Ingredients
Filling
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 (3.4 oz) boxes instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 cups cold milk
- 4 ounces Cool Whip (half of an 8-ounce container)
Assembly
- 8 ounces Cool Whip (remaining half)
- 2-3 bananas, sliced (about 48 slices)
- 32 vanilla wafers (plus more for serving)
- Heath bits, optional, for serving
- Caramel sauce, optional, for serving
Instructions
- Beat Cream Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to beat the softened cream cheese until it is smooth and creamy without lumps.
- Mix Pudding: In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until smooth and thickened.
- Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the pudding mixture to the cream cheese in four installments, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Then fold in half of the Cool Whip gently to maintain a light texture.
- Layer the Pudding Jars: Spoon or pipe about 3 tablespoons of the pudding mixture into the bottom of each 8-ounce mason jar or cup. Layer 2 vanilla wafers on top, followed by 3 banana slices. Repeat this layering one more time with another 3 tablespoons of pudding, 2 vanilla wafers, and 3 banana slices. Finish with a final 3 tablespoons of pudding.
- Chill: Seal the jars with lids and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight to allow flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
- Add Toppings and Serve: Before serving, top each jar with the remaining Cool Whip. Sprinkle with crushed vanilla wafers, Heath bits, and drizzle with caramel sauce if desired for extra indulgence.
- Storage: Store any leftover banana pudding jars in the refrigerator for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
Notes
- For best texture, chill the pudding jars overnight.
- You can substitute Cool Whip with homemade whipped cream for a fresher option.
- Adjust the number of banana slices based on personal preference and jar size.
- Heath bits and caramel sauce are optional toppings that add a delightful crunch and sweetness.
- Use firm bananas to prevent mushiness when layering.
