Description

A light and refreshing Strawberry Angel Food Cake dessert that combines airy angel food cake with a creamy strawberry Jell-O mixture and fresh strawberries. This no-bake treat is perfect for warm days or any occasion requiring a simple yet delicious dessert.

Ingredients

Cake Base

  • 13 oz angel food cake

Strawberry Jell-O Mixture

  • 3 oz strawberry Jell-O powder
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • 1 pound strawberries, washed, stems removed, and cut into quarter size pieces
  • 8 oz Cool Whip (half of a 16-ounce container or one 8-ounce container)

Topping

  • 8 oz Cool Whip (remaining half of the 16-ounce container or one 8-ounce container)
  • Additional fresh strawberries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare The Cake Base: Using a long serrated knife, cut the angel food cake into 1 to 2-inch cubes. Evenly spread the cake pieces over the bottom of a 9×13 inch pan.
  2. Make the Jell-O Mixture: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the boiling water and strawberry Jell-O powder. Whisk until fully dissolved. Add the ice and stir until melted to cool the mixture and prevent strawberries from becoming too soft.
  3. Add Creaminess: Add one 8 oz container of Cool Whip to the Jell-O mixture and whisk until creamy and smooth.
  4. Fold in Strawberries: Gently fold in the quartered strawberries into the Jell-O mixture without breaking them up.
  5. Assemble Dessert: Pour the strawberry and Jell-O-Cool Whip mixture evenly over the angel food cake cubes in the pan.
  6. Chill: Place the pan in the refrigerator and chill for at least 4 hours, or until the mixture is firmly set.
  7. Top and Serve: Before serving, evenly spread the remaining 8 oz container of Cool Whip over the top of the chilled dessert. Garnish with additional fresh strawberries if desired. Cut into squares and enjoy.

Notes

  • Ensure the Jell-O mixture is cool before adding strawberries to prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Use fresh strawberries for best flavor and texture.
  • This dessert is best served chilled for a refreshing experience.
  • Can be made a day ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator.
  • Substitute Cool Whip with a dairy-free whipped topping to make it vegan-friendly, though traditional Cool Whip contains dairy.
