Description

Avocado Crema is a smooth, tangy, and slightly spicy sauce made from ripe avocados, Greek yogurt, fresh lemon, and optional pepper flakes. It whips up quickly in a food processor to create a versatile condiment perfect for drizzling over tacos, grilled vegetables, salads, or as a dip.

Ingredients

Avocado Crema Ingredients

  • 2 large ripe avocados, peeled, pitted, and cut into large chunks
  • 1/2 cup whole milk Greek yogurt
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon Aleppo pepper or crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Water, as needed to adjust consistency

Instructions

  1. Combine the ingredients: In the bowl of a food processor fitted with an S blade, add the avocado chunks, Greek yogurt, and the lemon zest and juice. Add the Aleppo pepper or crushed red pepper flakes if using, along with a generous pinch of kosher salt and black pepper.
  2. Blend until smooth: Process the mixture, pausing occasionally to scrape down the sides of the processor bowl, until the crema is smooth, fluffy, and fully combined, approximately 3 minutes.
  3. Adjust seasoning and texture: Taste the crema and adjust the seasoning by adding more salt, pepper, or pepper flakes if desired. If the crema is too thick, add water one teaspoon at a time, blending after each addition until the desired smooth consistency is achieved.
  4. Serve or store: Serve the avocado crema immediately as a topping or dip, or transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to three days.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier crema, increase the amount of Aleppo pepper or crushed red pepper flakes gradually.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute Greek yogurt with a thick coconut yogurt or cashew cream.
  • Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best bright flavor.
  • The crema can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container; stir well before serving.
  • If the avocado crema browns after storage, a quick stir will help restore its creamy appearance.
