Description

This Asparagus and Goat Cheese Tart is a light yet flavorful dish featuring crisp, flaky puff pastry, creamy goat cheese, and tender asparagus. Perfect as an appetizer, brunch item, or elegant side dish, this tart is simple to prepare and stunning to serve.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus (trimmed)
  • 4 oz goat cheese (softened)
  • 2 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme or chives (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prepare Pastry – Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll & Score the Pastry – Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface and transfer to the baking sheet. Score a ½-inch border around the edges without cutting through.
  3. Make the Cheese Mixture – In a bowl, mix goat cheese, cream cheese, garlic, lemon zest, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Assemble the Tart – Spread the cheese mixture evenly inside the scored border. Arrange asparagus in a single layer on top.
  5. Add Finishing Touches – Brush the edges with beaten egg for a golden crust. Drizzle asparagus with olive oil and season with additional salt and pepper.
  6. Bake & Serve – Bake for 20-25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and puffed. Garnish with fresh thyme or chives before serving.

Notes

  • Pre-bake the pastry for a crispier base. Bake for 5 minutes before adding the cheese.
  • Customize with toppings like smoked salmon, cherry tomatoes, or caramelized onions.
  • For a dairy-free version, use dairy-free cheese and skip the egg wash.
