Ingredients

  1. For the crust:

  7. 6 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
  8. 1/4 cup brown sugar
  9. 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  10. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  11. 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  12. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  13. 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour or cornstarch
  14. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  15. Optional: 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix graham cracker crumbs, sugar, melted butter, and salt in a bowl until combined.
  3. Press mixture into the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie dish. Use the back of a measuring cup to compact evenly.
  4. Bake crust for 8–10 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  5. Increase oven temperature to 375°F (190°C).
  6. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, flour or cornstarch, and vanilla extract.
  7. Pour apple mixture into pre-baked crust. Dot with butter if using.
  8. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until apples are tender and filling is bubbling.
  9. Cool for at least 2 hours before slicing to allow filling to set.
