Description
Apple dumplings with crescent rolls are a comforting, easy-to-make dessert featuring tart apples wrapped in flaky dough and baked in a buttery, cinnamon-spiced syrup. Lemon-lime soda creates a caramel-like sauce for an irresistible treat.
Ingredients
- 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut into 8 wedges each
- 2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup lemon-lime soda (e.g., Sprite or Mountain Dew)
- Optional: pinch of salt or ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Peel and core apples, then slice into 16 wedges total.
- Unroll crescent dough and wrap each apple wedge in a triangle, starting at the wide end and rolling tightly.
- Place wrapped apples seam-side down in the prepared baking dish.
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and optional salt or nutmeg. Cook until just combined and pourable.
- Pour the butter-sugar mixture evenly over the dumplings.
- Carefully pour the soda around the edges of the dish, avoiding the tops of the dumplings.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbling.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor and texture.
- Do not pour soda directly over the dumplings to keep the tops crispy.
- For added spice, include a pinch of ground cloves or nutmeg in the syrup.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or caramel drizzle for extra indulgence.
