Description
Apple and Blueberry Crumble is a simple yet satisfying dessert made with tender apples, juicy blueberries, and a golden, buttery crumble topping. Served warm with a scoop of ice cream, it’s the perfect combination of fruit and crunch.
Ingredients
- 3–4 apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (or flour)
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats (optional)
- 1/3 cup brown sugar (for topping)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch or 9-inch round baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss sliced apples and blueberries with lemon juice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Pour the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats (if using), brown sugar, and salt. Add cold butter and rub with fingers or a pastry cutter until mixture forms coarse crumbs.
- Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the fruit.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
- Let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
- Frozen blueberries don’t need to be thawed—just toss them in with the apples.
- Adjust sugar to taste based on the sweetness of your fruit.
- Add chopped nuts to the topping for extra crunch.
- Make it gluten-free with a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend and certified GF oats.
