Description

Apple and Blueberry Crumble is a simple yet satisfying dessert made with tender apples, juicy blueberries, and a golden, buttery crumble topping. Served warm with a scoop of ice cream, it’s the perfect combination of fruit and crunch.

Ingredients

  1. 34 apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady), peeled, cored, and sliced
  2. 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  3. 1 tbsp lemon juice
  4. 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  5. 1/4 cup brown sugar
  6. 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  7. 1 tbsp cornstarch (or flour)
  8. 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  9. 1/2 cup rolled oats (optional)
  10. 1/3 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  11. 1/4 tsp salt
  12. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch or 9-inch round baking dish.

  1. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples and blueberries with lemon juice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch until evenly coated.
  2. Pour the fruit mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats (if using), brown sugar, and salt. Add cold butter and rub with fingers or a pastry cutter until mixture forms coarse crumbs.
  4. Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the fruit.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges.
  6. Let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  1. Frozen blueberries don’t need to be thawed—just toss them in with the apples.
  2. Adjust sugar to taste based on the sweetness of your fruit.
  3. Add chopped nuts to the topping for extra crunch.
  4. Make it gluten-free with a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend and certified GF oats.
  5. Prep ahead and refrigerate unbaked for up to 24 hours before baking.
