Description

Air Fryer Apple Roses are a beautiful and delicious dessert featuring thinly sliced apples rolled in puff pastry, dusted with cinnamon, and cooked to perfection in an air fryer. These elegant pastries are easy to make in just 30 minutes and perfect for impressing guests or enjoying a special treat.

Ingredients

Fruits

  • 2 red apples – Fuji (Honeycrisp or Gala are great choices)
  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice

Pastry

  • 1/2 package puff pastry sheets (1 sheet), thawed for 30 minutes
  • Flour (for dusting the cutting board)

Seasonings & Toppings

  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Honey, maple syrup, whipped cream, or ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Cut the apples in half, remove the core and seeds, then slice into 1/8 inch thick slices using a knife or mandolin. Place the slices into a large microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Soften the apples: Add lemon juice and enough water to cover the apple slices. Microwave for 3 minutes or until the slices are soft and pliable. If they break when bent, microwave for an additional minute.
  3. Prepare the workspace: Lightly flour a large cutting board or countertop to prevent sticking while working with the puff pastry.
  4. Prepare the puff pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet gently with a rolling pin to flatten it evenly. Cut the sheet horizontally into six strips approximately 2 inches wide.
  5. Drain apples: Drain the softened apple slices in a colander and set aside.
  6. Assemble the roses: Take one puff pastry strip and line the edge with apple slices, skin side sticking out and slightly overlapping each slice. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cinnamon over the lined apples.
  7. Fold and roll: Fold the bottom part of the pastry strip up to cover the apple bases, then carefully roll the strip to form a rose shape. Pinch the ends gently to secure.
  8. Prepare for air frying: Place each rolled apple rose in a silicone baking cup to help hold shape during cooking and place in the air fryer basket.
  9. Cook: Air fry the apple roses at 370°F (188°C) for 8-10 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and fully cooked.
  10. Serve: Remove the roses from the air fryer and serve warm. Dust with powdered sugar for extra sweetness and accompany with honey, maple syrup, whipped cream, or ice cream if desired.

Notes

  • Choose firm apples like Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Gala to ensure slices hold their shape when rolled.
  • Do not over-microwave the apple slices to avoid mushy texture; they should be just pliable enough to bend.
  • Use flour sparingly to prevent the puff pastry from sticking while rolling and cutting.
  • Silicone baking cups help keep the apple roses intact during air frying.
  • For a dairy-free option, serve with maple syrup instead of whipped cream or ice cream.
