Description
Air Fryer Apple Pie Bombs are a quick and delicious twist on the classic apple pie, featuring a warm, gooey apple filling wrapped in crispy, flaky dough. Made in the air fryer for a healthier option, these bite-sized treats are perfect for satisfying your dessert cravings with minimal prep time.
Ingredients
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough (or crescent roll dough)
1 medium apple (peeled, cored, and diced)
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening the filling)
1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for coating)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
Prepare the apple filling: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch (if using). Stir to combine. Cook for 4-5 minutes, until the apples soften and the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Assemble the apple pie bombs: Open the can of biscuit dough and separate the biscuits. If using crescent roll dough, unroll the dough and separate into individual triangles. Flatten each biscuit or triangle slightly to make a small round or square shape. Place a spoonful of the apple filling in the center of each dough piece. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling to form a ball (or bring the edges of the crescent roll triangles together to form a pocket). Pinch the edges together to seal the bombs.
- Coat the apple pie bombs: In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and cinnamon. Brush each apple pie bomb with melted butter and roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat them evenly.
- Air fry the apple pie bombs: Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes. Arrange the prepared apple pie bombs in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy on the outside. Check halfway through and give them a little shake to ensure even cooking.
- Serve and enjoy: Let the apple pie bombs cool for a few minutes before serving. They are delicious on their own or with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Notes
- For a variation, try caramel apple pie bombs by drizzling caramel sauce inside the bombs before sealing them.
- Use cinnamon roll dough for a sweeter, roll-inspired version.
- Replace apples with pears, peaches, or berries for different fruity fillings.
- To make these ahead of time, assemble and freeze the bombs, then air fry directly from the freezer at 350°F for 10-12 minutes.
- For a less sweet version, reduce the sugar in the filling and coating, and opt for tart apple varieties like Granny Smith.
