Description

These Addictive Peanut Butter Cheerio Bars are a deliciously sweet and crunchy treat combining the creamy richness of peanut butter, gooey marshmallows, and crispy Cheerios, topped with a luscious layer of melted chocolate. Perfect for a quick snack or to satisfy your sweet tooth, these no-bake bars come together in under 15 minutes and can be easily stored for later enjoyment.

Ingredients

Base Mixture

  • 2 ounces butter (about 3 tablespoons)
  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • 10 ounces marshmallows
  • 6 cups Cheerios (use 5 cups if using UK cups)

Topping

  • 7 ounces chocolate (milk or dark)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Line a 9 x 13 inch pan with baking paper to ensure easy removal and cleanup.
  2. Melt Base Ingredients: Slowly melt the butter, peanut butter, and marshmallows together over low heat, stirring gently until fully combined into a smooth mixture.
  3. Mix in Cheerios: Use a wooden spoon to stir the Cheerio cereal into the melted mixture, ensuring all are evenly coated.
  4. Press into Pan: With damp hands, firmly press the mixture into the lined pan, spreading it evenly and preventing sticking.
  5. Prepare Chocolate Topping: Melt the chocolate in the microwave for about 90 seconds, stirring halfway to avoid burning. Pour the melted chocolate over the pressed Cheerio mixture and spread it evenly right to the edges.
  6. Set the Bars: Allow the bars to set in a cool place or refrigerate until firm. Once set, cut into bars.
  7. Storage: Store the bars in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze in Ziploc bags for longer preservation.

Notes

  • Using damp hands to press the mixture prevents sticking and helps achieve an even layer.
  • You can substitute dark chocolate for milk chocolate based on preference.
  • If you want a chewier bar, reduce the cooking time slightly before pressing into the pan.
  • Bars can be frozen for up to one month if stored properly.
  • Adjust the amount of Cheerios slightly depending on cup measurement differences between US and UK cups.
