Description
This festive 4th of July trifle is a colorful and delicious dessert that will wow your guests. Layered with fluffy cake, fresh berries, and a creamy filling, it’s the perfect sweet treat to celebrate Independence Day in style.
Ingredients
1 box of angel food cake mix (or homemade angel food cake)
1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
2 cups fresh blueberries
2 cups fresh raspberries
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Angel Food Cake: If using a box mix, follow the package instructions to make the angel food cake. If making homemade cake, bake according to your recipe’s directions. Once baked, allow the cake to cool completely before cutting it into small cubes (about 1-inch pieces).
- Make the Creamy Filling: In a medium-sized bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until soft peaks form. In a separate bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until fully combined and smooth.
- Assemble the Trifle: In a large trifle dish or a large glass bowl, begin by layering half of the angel food cake cubes at the bottom. Follow with a layer of cream mixture, then a layer of mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries). Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of cream on top.
- Chill and Serve: Cover the trifle and refrigerate for at least 3 hours (or overnight) to allow the flavors to meld together. Before serving, garnish with extra berries and fresh mint leaves for a pop of color.
Notes
- While raspberries are delicious, you can swap them for other berries like strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries to suit your taste.
- For a more decadent version, add a layer of chocolate pudding or ganache between the layers.
- If you prefer a gluten-free version, you can use a gluten-free angel food cake or any other gluten-free cake option.
- This dessert can be made in individual serving glasses or jars for a fun, portioned twist.
